Piscataway vs. South Brunswick: Chiefs bounce back with a 25-0 win against the Vikings
On September 26th, 2024 the Piscataway Chiefs hosted the South Brunswick Vikings at Kenny Armwood Stadium in their Week 5 matchup. It resulted in a dominating 25-0 win which brings the Chiefs to 3-2 on the season.
It was a commanding game for the Chiefs being able to win the battles in both backfields. The Chiefs beat the Vikings in the run game with their running back, James Bodley having 166 yards and 2 touchdowns compared to the Vikings 20 yards rushing. In the Vikings backfield, the Chiefs combined for 4 sacks on the night with Senior Linebacker, Riley Wingate having 2.5 sacks. When compared to the Vikings, they had 0 sacks.
Chiefs Head Coach, Dan Higgins commemorated the teams performance on defense this week.
“I think everybody stuck to their assignments and we were very disciplined today.” Coach Higgins said. “We made a lot of [defensive] stops, we had some really good defensive line play [who] got a bunch of sacks and that really hurt their offense.”
Similarly, Sophomore Quarterback, Landon Pernell thinks the Chiefs offense did really well this week.
“I think we definitely did better on offense than in the past weeks. We completed our passes, we ran the right routes, it’s all about growth.”
The future of this Chiefs team is certainly bright with four games left in the season. Coach Higgins thinks this team is able to go far if the team is willing to work for it.
“I think this team is getting better week to week. It’s a process to get better but we’re getting better” Coach Higgins said. “We can go as far as they are willing to work and I think these guys are willing to put a lot of work in. I’m encouraged but it’s day to day, week to week.”
Landon Pernell also thinks this Chiefs team could be really great for the rest of this season.
“I think we could really be great. [Maybe a] Championship. I think we can really keep driving, but it’s not over yet though.”
Every team seeks to bring home a championship from the start of the season. The Chiefs have certainly shown they are capable of beating great teams and go the extra mile in the Playoffs to win a title for Piscataway. The Chiefs are going to play in Sayreville against the 2-3 Sayreville Bombers next week. The Bombers are coming off a 40-29 blowout win against the 1-3 North Brunswick Raiders. This will certainly be a test for the Chiefs.
