On October 15th, 2024, Piscataway Girls Volleyball (6-13) hosted their Pink out night against J.P Stevens (16-7) in the Anthony Gymnasium. The team was close but ultimately unable to pull out with a win losing 2-1. In Set 1, they squeaked out a win 26-24. In Set 2, they lost 25-18. In set 3, they lost 26-24.
Piscataway played a great game with players like Outside Hitter, Milani Washington, totaling 19 kills which is higher than any other player on both teams. They also played great defense with a total of 64 digs thanks to players like Olivia Disarro and Olivia Hammerdahl. This was way more when compared to J.P Stevens’ 45 digs.
It is certainly impressive that Piscataway was able to keep a close game against a great team like J.P Stevens. Piscataway player, Kayla Elamparo agrees with this:
“I think we played really really good. There were some pretty good plays between the whole entire team.”
This opinion was also very apparent in spectators. Sebastian Nunez, a spectator, agrees with this:
“I think that it was a very close game. Both sets went up to 23, even up to 24. It was a crazy game.”
The atmosphere created within the gymnasium certainly played a big part in Piscataway’s performance. Elamparo also agrees with this.
“I think we had a positive and negative atmosphere. There were times where we were very hyped and there were times when the energy dropped which wasn’t good but we still fought back.” she said
Spectator Sebastian Nunez also agrees.
“The energy everybody brought [made it exciting.] Also, the fact that it was pink out today.” Nunez said. “I feel like that makes it an important game.”
Piscataway Girls Volleyball finished with a 10-16 record and unfortunately lost to J.P Stevens again in the NJSIAA tournament. However, this was certainly a great season for the team.
