Piscataway High School is home to multiple electives and courses that focus on a variety of interests, letting students have the opportunity to explore all possible paths and thinking about future possibilities with each. Now, PHS is welcoming another member to the elective family which will be available to sophomores and juniors starting the school year of 2025-2026.
Named “Tomorrow’s Teachers”, this course is NOT only for the people who see themselves on the education pathway but can also be extremely beneficial for students exploring career paths in Psychology, Social Work, Medical Care, Political Science, Event Coordinating, Corporate World (Trainer, Project Manager, etc.), or just looking for hands-on work experiences, future leadership positions, or anyone who has a passion for helping those around them.
Having partnered with Kean University, this course is considered a “dual-enrollment course”, meaning it will earn individuals college credits when completed and offers college visits, internships in real life classrooms, and field experiences. Therefore, being a “dual enrollment course”, attendees will be considered students of both PHS and Kean University, making the students of this course’s college applications even stronger! However, with these many amazing perks comes a few requirements:
- Having a “B” Average
- Letters of Recommendation
- A Personal Essay
The personal essay might stress some people out, but, as said by the future teacher of this course, Ms. Alonso, “the personal essay just gives [her] an understanding of who the particular student is as a person”, making sure they will be a good fit for the course overall.
Encouraging critical thinking for real life situations and being predominantly skill-oriented rather than focusing on JUST the results, students at PHS that are even slightly interested in a course like this, helps give possible new interests a try which can further lead one to build their character as an individual and give them a better sense of who they are as a human and a student.

Note: An official course description from the PHS Program of Study is listed below:
This course is a dual-enrollment course in partnership with Kean University to provide the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school. Students begin this dual-enrollment course by reflecting on their own experiences within the educational setting. The course uses research methods and project-based learning to guide students through educational topics.. Students are given the opportunity to actively apply these concepts through a variety of pre-planned field experiences. Students will observe educational practices in elementary and secondary classrooms. This observation leads students into internships in which they will partner with master teachers in our district. During these internships, students are expected to not only act in the role of teacher’s assistant, but they will also be required to plan, execute, and evaluate their own lessons. The course enriches students’ understanding about the field of education, creates a toolbox of strategies to use in their future classrooms, and exposes them to the rigor of a college course and the performance standards of the professional world.
