The PHS Drama Club presents the musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Performing Arts Center on Thursday March 6; Friday, March 7; and Saturday, March 8 at 7 PM. Tickets are currently available for purchase— you won’t want to miss out!
From the second the curtain rises, the audience will be transported into the whimsical world of Willy Wonka, where golden tickets, Oompa Loompas, and bits of mischief await. This show is packed with humor, heart, and a whole lot of talent, making it perfect for students, faculty, and families alike who are looking for a night off. It’s a show definitely worth seeing – just ask the cast and crew!
Mr. Hall, director, said people should see the show for many reasons, as “theater is good for the soul. Charlie and the Chocolate factory is a story about a boy who dares to dream in a world that has forgotten how to do so. He enjoys his childhood where the other kids have been allowed to become cynical and mean. We need to dream now more than ever. But the real reason to go is to see the students of PHS who have worked so hard and come so far to display their talents. They are sure to wow any audience.”
Even those working behind the scenes are amazed by this production. PHS junior Carolina Cano has spent hours painting set pieces on stage and has found herself peeking into the performances around her.
“Every time I’m on, the singing sounds nicely put together, the dances are entertaining, and I can’t help but listen in—I even occasionally glance away from whatever I’m painting just to get a snippet of the show,” she said. “I’ve never seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but from the small bits I’ve heard in rehearsals, it makes me want to see the show and understand the full story.”
PHS senior, Saint Alvin Neequaye, who plays Mr. Salt, promises that the show has something for everyone. “There are a lot of talented people in the show,” he says. “It’s diverse, very engaging, and visually stunning. The singing is impeccable, the choreography is beautiful, and it’s all just really funny. Plus, it’s great for kids!”
PHS junior, Sofia Jaminder, sums it up simply for people who need any more conviction: “We’ve spent a lot of time on this, and it’s cheap entertainment for the quality you’re getting.”
Even those not in the production recognize the dedication and talent behind it. Mr. Wernlund is attending to support his students involved, and it’s clear that the buzz surrounding the show is making an impression on other faculty members who are supporting their students as well.
With a hardworking cast and crew, a visually engaging set, and a story that is sure to make your night, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is shaping up to be one of PHS Drama Club’s most exciting productions yet. Whether you love musical theater, want to support your peers, or just need a fun night out with friends, this is one golden ticket you’ll want to grab!
