The annual PHS Spring Pep Rally, held on May 2nd at the PHS Kenny Armwood football stadium brought the student body together for a break. The pep rally was filled with sports recognition and student performances on a sweltering Friday afternoon. The event provided a much needed unwind as winter and spring teams were introduced and school spirit took the spotlight.
Athletes from baseball, softball, track, and other spring and winter sports (yes, PHS has a bowling team) were welcomed by fellow classmates.

Performances by the dance team and cheerleading squad were accompanied by an energetic playlist and play-by-play announcement from PHS junior Rhianna Hampton and sophomore Yara Salgado-Cowan, which added momentum to the rally.

Students on the field said they enjoyed the opportunity to catch a break with their friends and show off their teams in a moment of spirit.

The rally gave students the chance to come together and see their peers in acknowledgement of the sports sector of our school, keeping the performances as an opportunity to promote spring athletes and activities.
The crowd members, although under the sweltering heat, have said to be enjoying the time away from school with their friends to enjoy the teams and get some snacks.

Planning the rally involved coordination from the class councils under the advisory of Mr. Horan, the SGA advisor. Their work throughout the day and during the pep rally in participation in battle of the classes competitions ensured that everything ran smoothly.

Mr. Horan, who thinks “it was a great success” and was glad he “didn’t get pie-d,” [as he did last year], hopes to implement more involvement and activities next year.

New this year was the first flight of the Chieftain drone. The drone was piloted by Mr. Lojko, and the videos it recorded were edited by Chieftain multimedia editor, Jagger Tinitigan. If you didn’t get a chance to view the video of the event on Instagram, you can watch the 60 second clip here!
The Spring Pep Rally served as a thoughtful break from routine, offering a reminder of school pride as the year winds down and the SGA continues to coordinate for future rallies.
