How did the Piscataway high school flag football team come to be?
In 2021 several girls wanted to play football but the only thing was that they did not have a varsity flag football team, so the students went to Mr. Harmer, the Piscataway High School sports director, to notify him that they wanted a football team for girls. Two years later, in 2023, Piscataway High School played its first ever girls’ flag football game.
The New York Jets and Nike both partnered with Piscataway to give the PHS flag football team their uniforms and equipment to play.

Girls’ high school flag football has been quickly growing in popularity, and it was even featured in a Super Bowl commercial this year!

The program was 0-5 in its first full year. This year, the girls’ flag football team is having a rough season with a record of 1-5 this year with one game left on the calendar.
Although Piscataway only won one game this year, it was their first ever win in program history! The game was against J.P Stevens in Edison, New Jersey. The score was 14-6 with Piscataway scoring 2 touchdowns and J.P Stevens scoring 1 touchdown with a failed extra point attempt.

The following week, Piscataway had its home opener against North Brunswick at Kenny Armwood stadium in Piscataway, NJ. The team put up a hard fight: it was 0-0 for the whole game until the 2nd half with North Brunswick getting a touchdown and the 1 point conversion to take a 7-0 lead to spoil Piscataway’s home opener and to eventually win the game. Piscataway went on to lose to Elizabeth 35-0 and to Colonia 19-9.

Although this is a new program, the team has steadily been making improvements, and the players are looking forward to making next year’s season the best in PHS history!
