Eight-time Grammy nominee, songwriter, record producer, and rapper, Travis Scott, is under immense pressure after the events on Friday, November 5th, 2021. This was the fourth day of his six-day long concert “Astroworld” in Houston, Texas. This was a day of extreme tragedy due to the nine deaths that occurred during Scott’s performance. Fans were being trampled by one another, they were so close together that they were getting crushed, and many were unable to breathe. The media is indecisive on whether Scott could have prevented and/or stopped the show in advance.

People are beginning to believe that these tragic deaths could have been stopped beforehand by Travis Scott and his security. Multiple fans entered the arena without tickets which led to an arena with a maximum capacity of 20,000 holding 50,000 people. According to the Los Angeles Times, safety consultant Paul Wertheimer stated, “This was preventable. The crowd was allowed to get too dense and was not managed properly.”

Another article by “Newsweek” states that “Lawsuits have been filed against Scott and Live Nation alleging ‘negligence’ for inciting a riot and violence and failing to establish proper safety measures and medical services at the concert.”

On social media, there are multiple videos going viral of fans telling the stage crew and security to stop the show because someone had died in the crowd. It is not confirmed that Scott himself knew what was actually going on until about 40 minutes into the concert. He could have thought that his fans were being wild as he always encourages them to be. Or not.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time a catastrophe like this has happened, such as events like the “Roskilde Festival,” “The Who” concert in Cincinnati, and now “Astroworld.” We can now come to the conclusion that at each of these events there should have been overall more precautions that should have been taken such as creating stronger barricades, more security, and having more space for the people attending the concert. If you are ever found in a similar situation to this, the most important thing is to leave as soon as you feel uncomfortable or the crowd around you begins to get too dense.  I urge you to get to know the warning signs and to follow the tips that experts have put together in order to protect yourself.
