On December 12, the board members of a high school club named Pway Paws in Piscataway High School discussed their duties and involvement in the club. They provided insight on the purpose and responsibilities the club itself holds.
The president of the club, Ruhi Patel, gave an overview of the main roles the members play.
“We do a lot of work like helping shelters.” Patel Said. “Like right now we’re running a drive, and we have a lot more activities planned in the future, regarding helping animal shelters and helping animals that are underprivileged.”
Patel spoke about the shelters and organizations that may partner up with the school in due time.
“We’re running the drive for Franklin Animal Shelter, Franklin Township,” she said. “That’s the main animal shelter we’ve been working with, but in the future we’re probably going to work with Plainfield because that’s the closest or potential vet clinics or hospitals, if they come in and get guest speakers.”
The club advisor, Mrs. Aviles added on, sharing a planned future event that would benefit the club and fulfill its purpose.
“We were going to have this toy making…where children come in, or students come in, and they make toys for animal shelters and donors, so we can donate in bulk, which is great,” she said.
Patel highlighted plans moving forward and provided a clear vision for the club.
“There’s also some companies, well, not companies, but non-profits, like a wildlife organization or the Seeing Eye Foundation for Seeing Eye dogs, they can come in and bring their speakers,” she said. “Next year though, we might do a field trip or something to the zoo.”
Recently, on January 14, the club hosted guest speakers Kelly Patterson and Nakeisha Williams-Hill to present on Laboratory Animal Science, which involves taking care of animals that are housed in research facilities.
If you are interested in joining or finding out more information about the club, please contact Ms. Aviles or come to a Pway Paws meeting. The club meets in F100 every second Wednesday of the month, and the next meeting is on March 11.
