Since the summer of 2025, almost everyone’s internet feed has been flooded with the viral “6/7” meme. This slang term not only became an internet trend, but became a real life trend that spread like a virus across the entire world. From schools to South Park, every mention of these two simple numbers has become a huge joke. This meme has spread everywhere on the internet and there is no strong sign of this slang stopping and dying out yet.
The origin of the slang term
To truly understand the 6/7 slang, we need to go back to the very first mention of this slang, not the actual numbers of 6 and 7 but the original slang term. The first ever mention of the slang term was mentioned in the rap song made by the notorious rapper, Skrilla, dating back to December 1st 2024 when his song “Doot Toot 6/7” was unofficially published. The lyric “6/7” was mentioned, referring to a street in Philadelphia named 67th Street which has a small history of gun violence, but also referred to the police code “10-67” which is to notify that death has happened.

Then a few weeks later, the high school basketball prospect, Taylen Kinney, made a video of himself ranking a Starbucks coffee drink and saying 6/7. This has gained him so much popularity that he launched his own 6/7 branded water line and earned him the nickname “Mr 6/7” He is also the origin of the 6/7 hand gesture which is putting your hands out and raising them up and down..

The Rise to Worldwide Fame
Then, on March 31st 2025, the Youtuber/internet personality, Cam Wilder, known for his basketball content and organizing streetball events, uploaded the video “My Overpowered AAU Team has Finally Returned!” to Youtube which is just a video of a local basketball team playing in a game. But when the scoreboard displayed the score 6:7, the crowd cheered but Cam Wilder’s cameraman zoomed in on a particular teenager, named Maverick Trevillian, wearing a grey hoodie with blonde hair yelling out “6/7!” and doing the hand gesture before being blocked out of view out of the crowd.

That very video quickly became mainstream on Tiktok due to its history of making anything random and absurd funny and mainstream, solely because of Maverick, the original song became popular again and it became the #1 meme on Tiktok. Every mention of these two numbers resulted in people doing the hand gesture, it spread across the world at an exponential rate.
Maverick also became a horror popularity starting in August 2025 where Tiktokers make bizarre video edits of distorting his face and calling him “SCP 0-67” a reference to the popular fictional horror media, SCP.

Eventually it spread so fast that almost everyone was doing it, especially schools where some schools have to ban the term because it’s disruptive to classrooms except most schools including Piscataway High School which hasn’t yet banned the term and teachers are aware of the term.
The Effects on the Internet
By late 2025, the trend has completely spread to the internet and the entire world. However, mass disapproval of the meme exists since some people find it tiring and annoying of how these two simple numbers became a meme and they can’t say it in peace without constant jokes. From Instagram to Tiktok, 6/7 has become a primary trend on these apps.
On October 15th 2025, the adult animation show, South Park, aired the 1st episode of Season 28 on October 15th, 2025, where the main characters and the kids are depicted in their school saying 6/7 and doing the hand gesture.

But before that on October 10th, 2025, the famous American aerospace company, Boeing, made an Instagram post on one of their products, the Boeing 767, a twin engine wide body jetliner where Boeing also referenced the 6/7 meme since 6/7 was in the product’s name.
Then on October 21st, 2025, even the Washington Post made an article on the rise of “brainrot” and Gen Alpha humor including 6/7.

Then finally, the ultimate mind melt on the 6/7 trend was on October 29th 2025, was when Dictionary.com announced that The Word of the Year was 6/7, showing how much of an impact this trend has had.
Conclusion: What really is 6/7?
So far, we have concluded that 6/7 is a popular, bizarre, and absurdly funny piece of media in this entire year. But the confusing thing about 6/7 is whether this is a trend, meme, slang term, or pure brainrot?
We can conclude it’s not brainrot because it is low quality content, but however brainrot mostly appeals to young kids, not teenagers. And brainrot interferes with academics since it’s distracting but, so far, 6/7 isn’t reported to interfere with school performance, therefore concluded it’s not brainrot.
But it’s still hard to define the 6/7 meme on whether it’s a trend, meme, or slang term. So while it may not fit perfectly into either of these categories, it represents how fast internet culture evolves over a short time, and its massive impact on the world. 6/7 is practically meticulously crafted to unite people even though the entire meme is pure absurdity and chaotic confusion. So finally concluded, 6/7 is nowhere near a global phenomena, but it’s definitely a pop culture hit that brings the people of the world under absurdity, chaos, and confusing but amusing humor.
